‘Old Edinburgh ghost sign‘

Walking up Candlemaker Row from the Grassmarket, I saw this particularly impressive ghost sign for HARVEYS FURNITURE STORES and went up into Greyfriars Kirkyard to get a better look. 

The whole area has been in the process of being done up in recent years, and the faded sign certainly contrasts with both the clouds and the blue sky above, and the slightly garish colours of the bar below!

The much less clear sign to the right looks like it reads - HARVEYS SHOWROOMS … GEO IV BRIDGE.

I’m not sure what the relationship between the two is, or exactly when the signs themselves became ghosts!
