Farmers' Market
This morning I went up to our local farmer's market that sets up every Wednesday in Celebration Square at the library and thought it would make a good blip for today. I didn't get any spectacular photos though; it was not exactly a hive of activity with crowds lining up at the stalls, filling their market baskets; that will come later when folks get used to shopping in crowds again...With few people to photograph, I was looking for colour...peppers were big..as were strawberries..both locally grown. At least in Ontario. The peppers won for the blip. (that bright orange did it)...But then for my commentary...What can you say about a farmers' market, other than a lot of what's there has nothing to do with farmers? Signs can be SO misleading...Our Whitby Farmers' Market sign, however, addresses that with "Farm Fresh Produce and MORE! " - just so you will know there will be much more than fresh fruits and vegetables, so come on in! You will find things like jams, jellies, chutneys, soaps, cosmetics, jewellery, popcorn, craft items, flowers, baked goods, and oh yes, maple syrup! Yum! Another thing, if the sign also says "Local", which ours does not, it probably only means that the market is local, like in your neighbourhood - not that the farmers are local. For example, the olive oil I bought there this morning came from a "farm" in Greece! Which obviously has an olive grove...And yes, I know that the vendor actually has a "farm" in Greece..because I asked her! and that led to an interesting discussion...heh heh ..So, today I supported an actual farmer! At a farmers' market. Felt good.
