The Mullet Boys!
Mauzee and I had a great time chatting to Eric and Matt, the "Mullet Boys" in Cooper Pedy today. We keep bumping into a variety of characters who have all been taking part in the Shit Box Rally. It's a Rally through the Outback from the Gold Coast to Alice Springs and they all raise money for the Cancer Council. It looks like they had raised around $12,000 on their own! They can only enter and race in a car that cost less than $1,000 and it can't be a four wheel drive!! Matt and I had a good chat and it turned out I knew the father of his best friend. Frank Catto was the owner of Chellowdene on Shipley Plateau and a neighbour of mine, Frank only sold it around three years ago. It's certainly a small world. I told Matt I used to give Frank plenty of room when I saw him on the road as he could hardly see over the steering wheel. I just hope they make it home again because the car has already taken a beating. We have absolutely loved the characters we've met on our trip, you just never know who you're going to bump into.
We're off to Port Augusta tomorrow. It's a long drive, just under 600km, so we'll be leaving early again. Then we really head toward home and will be in Broken Hill on Friday. Looks like we'll be back in the mountains around Tuesday or Wednesday............perhaps :))
