Funicular: Brace For Impact

Hand held (on a wall) for two seconds. 

There are two cars counterbalanced with the use of water, and while the travel distance is not incredible (274 meters), they are the oldest in the world, moved by water. Completed in March 1882, they replaced the rail vehicles pulled by horses. Its success led to the construction of one in Lisbon that also operates to this day.

It parallels the Bom Jesus staircase (extra), another marvel, that leads up to the UNESCO World heritage Site, the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte.
