Feeding time / Fütterungszeit
Today was my daughter’s 7th birthday party.
First they took pot-luck with a very English pass the parcel, followed by a Latin-style Piñata - which comes from the Spanish for pot, though in this case it looked more like a unicorn.
Finally, we had the German tradition of Topfschlagen, when one child is blindfolded and armed with a wooden spoon, and the others yell instructions to help them hit a cooking pot placed in the corner, under which is a little treat. Apparently this originated in funfairs, where anyone who could find and break an eathenware pot would win the live rooster underneath…
We avoided gifting live animals, but we did decamp to the local Tierpark - this photo really does show feeding time at the zoo!
