Melting away – literally
Yesterday evening I was lucky to get hold of a ticket for the newest Paris museum, the Bourse de Commerce (the former Commodities Exchange). It just opened mid May and when I already tried a few days ago, all tickets were sold out a month ahead.
The museum is dedicated to contemporary art, but the transformed building alone is worth a visit.
Blip, extra 1 and 2: Presented in the Rotonda, the monumental heart of the Bourse de Commerce, composed wax sculptures by Urs Fischer (a Swiss artist) are shown, including the large statue in the middle. In fact they are large candles and were lit on the first day of the exhibition.
Blip 3: Helms Amendment, 1989, by Louise Lawler
And by the way: the transforming cost of the building were some $195 million and paid privately (!) by François Pinault (founder of the luxury group Kering with brands as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and, and, and). Seems that there is some private competition with Bernard Arnault, the chairman of the other big luxury group LVMH (Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Tiffany, Bulgary, etc.) who built the amazing art museum Louis Vuitton Foundation.
