Forty Years On....
The city has changed...
lives begun and lives ended...
all moving forward....

On this very day, forty years ago, M and I were married in this lovely west end house in Kamloops. The home was then owned by our Australian friends who returned to Australia five years later. It was a small gathering of friends and family, some of whom had travelled a distance at short notice to get there for our special day.
Much has changed since that day. Two daughters were born. Our parents passed away. We've lost our pastor, our host, our best man and my eldest sister. My husband died with Alzheimer's in 2013 at age 66.
The day itself was much like today for weather. It was damp and unstable. During the ceremony thunder rolled through our valleys just as my husband was to take his vows. Our pastor paused and asked my husband if he was paying attention to what we all could hear rattling the house. It gave us all a laugh.
I made my first stop to take a look at the house. I had a look over the damp city from the lookout on Columbia Street. I picked up my croissant and coffee downtown, then drove to Pioneer Park to get on the Rivers Trail. I walked past the boat launch where Canada geese were floating by. I took note of the little creek by the tennis courts and left my quilted heart in a Russian olive tree in bloom. By 9, I was back home sitting in my recliner.
Although we were promised a day of rain, the sun is peeking out now by 10 AM. We had a low overnight of 15 C and might expect a high of 27 C.
