The difficulty of landscape photography

Landscape photography is an art form I have never been able to master. I have read all the tips of course - place something in the foreground, use the light well and so on but I have very few good efforts compared to other pictures I really am proud of. This is a fishing pond I arrived at yesterday shortly after dawn. It will do for a quick post.
