Strumble Head

My goodness the days are long at this time of year, it was off out again to get the 9.40pm sunset. Strumble Head was a place we went to a couple of times last year to watch the sun go down, it is so scenic and we watched the seals swimming around for awhile after the sun had set.
The day had been spent walking from our quayside location. Up to the old fort on Castle Point, where a warning cannon shot apparently deterred the French ships from landing here in 1797 but instead they apparently unloaded their troops a little further down the coast.
After enjoying the fine views we headed back to the Fishguard Lower Town and rounded the harbour on the far side past Saddle Point onto Goodwick Beach which is near the ferry terminal to Ireland. The terminal looked to be in lockdown as all crossings are suspended. Its strange that the terminal is called Fishguard as its actually in Goodwick. We walked back through the Upper Town and stopped off at the Royal Oak for a drink. It was here that the French troops negotiated a surrender just 38 hours after landing ashore.I hope they got a decent pint first. On our way back we were treated to a convoy of 10 Morgans on the way to / coming from a rally.
We were back home just in time to watch the England match, not very exciting but a good win, and worth a chorus of "we are on top of the world group looking down on Croatia".
