Goodbye
Well today was hot and beautiful but sombre air for us. We had planned the Mumbles but abandoned time wasted in two cars to spend some final few hours with D and the family.
They will be moving soon so the last view towards the sea from this fabulous deck which has been the family home for the last 18 years.
D was diagnosed with tongue cancer nearly two years ago prompting a trip September 2019 to effectively say goodbye.
But no!
He’s a strong un and fought and fought with the most phenomenal positivity and mindset. However, on his fiftieth birthday a few weeks ago he got the times up we’d all been expecting, hence this weekends sudden visit. Long journey for a short time spent but better now than a funeral which is imminent.
So, more stunning sunshine, Sunday papers, the boys watched the Edinburgh Llanelli game which seemed apt, the girls walked and talked about life ...and death.
The best lunch of tapas and all felt very normal except when we had to say goodbye, knowing we won’t see him again.
N lost his wife, D’s sister to the same fate nearly twenty years ago so history repeating itself for this sad family. Sometimes there are just no words to describe endings like these,
Bad things happen to good people, and life just feels too unfair.
