Not Strawberries

We're testing the garlic to see if it's ready to harvest. Each year we plant a good hundred cloves to get enough heads to braid and last the year. It's an easy crop to remember: plant at Thanksgiving, feed on Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day, stop watering on Memorial Day, and harvest on 4th of July. You may notice that it's not quite July yet, but look at those stalks--very dry, and unfortunately affected by some kind of rust that will make braiding less than satisfactory. It looks like we can leave it in the ground for another week or two, maybe. The heads are nice and big. I think we planted Early Italian variety, from our own crop last year.

The RedBall was in South County today, too far for me to go with all the traffic on the roads these days. Stay tuned for the weekend though...
