Restored sluice
This is an extraordinary place, on the road to Keills, that a friend took me to the other day. Originally built to create a recreational fishing loch for a landowner in the nineteenth century it has been partly restored by the current landowner, each stone moved by digger and hand. We didn’t see it ‘running’ but will return once we’ve worked out the timings. An incredible piece of industrial archaeology (and nineteenth century arrogance?) which is now a site for wintering birds too.
