Black-headed Gulls
I braved the bitterly cold wind in Derby at lunchtime today and strode out to Alvaston Park. I don't think I have ever experienced such a cold wind in March.
There are always a lot of birds on the lake in the park, but today there were more than ever. I didn't envy them swimming in the near frozen water.
I was surprised to notice in this group of black-headed gulls that a few of them are already sporting their summer plumage - i.e. the black heads. They obviously haven't been paying enough attention to the weather forecast. :-)
