Waldkindergarten Ottobeuren

In the middle of the Bannwald forest (which I usually Blip once a week) is the "Forest Kindergarten" situated on the former site of the state forestry tree nursery and opened in 1st March 2012. There are about 12 children, aged 3 to 7 who spend the whole morning (8:15 - 12:15) outside come rain, snow, sun & wind! For their mid morning snack & in extreme weather they use the hut which has a wood burning stove but no electricity. Hand washing with canisters of water and lava sand. Loo is of the camping variety.
The hut is situated at the highest point of the Bannwald (722 meters above sea level). Apparently the children needed 45 mins. in the beginning to get there from the car park but now manage it in 15 mins. Children are collected/returned by the supervisors from the car park about 600 meters away & 30 meters height difference. The parents don't have to make the walk which I readily admit is not easy.
With the return of cold & snow today the children were in their jump suits but seemed to be having great fun with water & sand. On the Blip I like the mini rucksacks hanging on the wall. Luna had to go on the leash here as she is still fascinated by children & would have readily joined in, digging in the water & sand
