You Can't Always Get What You Want

It was warm enough to sit out on the porch with coffee and the Sunday paper this morning. The relative tranquillity, marred only by the tree felling at the end of the road where the fire was the hottest and there were a lot of trees on the hillside . Now they are blackened skeletons and must have to be removed as part of the fire mitigation work that is being done. When Spike turned up with his favorite Kong which has been lost in the underbrush for awhile, I threw it for him for awhile until he started shoving it under my chair, staring and growling at it as if he could somehow animate it to move on its own.

We decided to take Spike along when we went to Harmony Farm Supply in Sebastopol this morning where they have a good nursery as well as all kinds of irrigation supplies, seeds, gardeners' gloves and hats, etc.  He has a tendency to charge up to other people and sniff their shoes. It might be a vestige of his sniffer dog training or the fact that he can't see well, but it is not a behavior we want to encourage. Fortunately most people there were not put off and were in fact very sympathetic to the effort. He did very well but I decided it was time to take him back to the car when he started eating the plants....

Blipper Freespiral's link to a rolling Stones video inspired today's blip (and my apologies for yet another one featuring Spike. He always seems to  be in the frame). I was singing lustily along to the song when I noticed Spike studying me with great curiousity. He's used to music coming out of the television or the computer, but not out of me.  I couldn't resist taking a picture. He doesn't appear to be looking at me, but he is...with his working eye. This version is not the classic one that starts with the children's voices. I wonder what he would have made of that? The song happens to be one of my favorites, but also seemed quite an appropriate lesson for Spike....
