Jack’s Gelato has become a notable Cambridge attraction. The ice cream from there is simply sublime and it remained open throughout the winter, clearly fitting into the description of ‘essential’ outlets.

The woman on the left is obviously weighing up whether to delve in for a scoop of honeycomb, which I would recommend, especially because on sunny days the queue is much larger than this. They do various flavours involving cardamom and aniseed, which are a bit ‘out there’ for me.

When I was locking my bike outside Coop after work, I was fiddling with the lock when a woman started bellowing ‘Francesco, Francesco!’ behind me. When I turned she said ‘sorry you look like my friend Francesco. Don’t worry, he’s a sexy Italian man. And don’t worry, I’m a lesbian, I’m not going to jump you.’ I said thanks and continued into Coop to pick up a crusty boule for the fish stew my friend Ali was making for us.
