Where are the Puffins?

We were off to see the puffins in Westray today. We were told that the Westray puffins were gallus puffins who were wont to approach you and perform for the camera. Strangely they appeared not be at home today, or at least not socialising. It was a decided ‘ no show’!

The cows on the other hand, were eager to make my acquaintance , so they deserve my blip.

We had a lovely day. It started off a bit damp and overcast as we set sail for the hour and a half ferry crossing, but it came good about midday and then the sun shone on a blue mill pond of a sea.
We had a walk to the Noup lighthouse where we had our picnic lunch looking out over the endless blue of the North Sea. There was only a small breeze and with the wonderful temperature, it was a case for the Glasgwegian ‘taps aff’!’

Refreshed, we backtracked to the main village at Pierowall for a look round the art gallery there, before sitting in the garden of the hotel and drinking cider.

This is the first time daughter #3 has visited Orkney and she is smitten. She is already wanting to come back and see more of it , but what a show it put on for her with the weather today.
The extra are the eggs given to me by Daughter #2’s friend. It seems a shame to eat them they are so pretty!
