TAMALE KING

I love SWEET CORN TAMALES, but they are difficult to find.
How wonderful it was to find this stand selling all kinds of
TAMALES, including the sweet corn variety.

The vendor's shirt added a little silliness to the transaction.

PS:  From the comments, I realize not everyone knows what a TAMALE is.
In the southwestern US, and where there is a large Mexican or Central American population, they are popular.   They are a well known  traditional Mexican dish made with a corn based dough called masa, that are filled with beef, chicken, pork, cheese or sweet corn.  There are also sweet dessert TAMALES.

TAMALES are wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves, which are discarded or used as a plate.  This is because they tend to be crumbly.  They are usually steamed in the husk.

Tamales were once considered sacred, which maybe explains why they  are a traditional part of the Mexican Christmas celebration, Las Posadas. The women in the family sometimes come together to make large quantities to give away.  I had a friend from Guatemala who made
tamales that also had olives inside.  She gave them to me as a Christmas gift.  This process can take all day & the women are very particular about the MASA they use.  I have heard there can be a line down the block at the
best producer of this grown corn.

The best TAMALES are home made, & sometimes women will sell them on the street in LA Hispanic neighborhoods..  The TAMALE KING is as close to home made that I have found nearby.

In the US, the slang "hot tamale" refers to a very attractive person, especially a woman.  The  Latina women I know would be offended by this
phrase. It might be yelled at a woman by construction workers, as she walks by.  An angry response in Spanish would be in order. No interceptor would be needed.
