Illeta WatchTower, El Campello

I had to go to Campello, near Alicante, ..this morning 
....to deal with some paperwork
While I was leaving, I passed by The Tower, overlooking the Marina .... it’s an iconic emblem of this old port town......

The Tower was originally built in the 16 th century to prevent the population being attacked by Berber pirates. 
It is one of a series of Towers along the coast.....
which used smoke signals during the daytime, and bonfires at night.....to alert other villages of imminent danger!

It all looked very peaceful today......phew!!
