I worked from Megan and Tim’s flat in Stoke Newington today. This was the sort of balanced work day I imagine could be the norm, instead of everyone being exploited by unscrupulous companies or organisational cultures that foment over-work and imposter syndrome.
The warm weather helped set the scene as it gave London a continental city sort of vibe. Before work Meggles and I strolled in Clissold Park and picked up coffee and croissants from a great bakery, Luminary, that doubles as a social enterprise, around the corner from their flat.
At lunch we got focaccia (the same bakery doing the honours) and walked to Abney Park Cemetery, one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ of private cemeteries in London. On a warm day we sat on a bench among the trees and drank an interesting coffee flavoured bubble tea concoction (a nod to our former stints in South East Asia) on the way back for an afternoon of work.
The evening topped the day off perfectly and was what Friday evenings should have been designed for. We finished work on time and Megan and I cycled south of the Thames to Deptford (via Decathlon in Surrey Quays, because everyone loves a Decathlon), where she and Tim are buying a flat. We gawped at it from the outside and then continued on to Greenwich, looping back for a vegan burger and pile of fries in Dalston. The London buzz was awesome and cycling in the city exhilarating. We got very excited when our routes aligned with Cycle Superhighways, which are great sections of infrastructure.
Hurrah for today.
