The building is familiar from its days as a housing association for homeless men, some newly released from prison, others boarding house residents squeezed out by gentrification.

The dog cakes on the current business’s website look fancier than kids’ birthday cakes. They’re made of kangaroo, turkey or veal mince covered with sugar-free frosting and dog treats. Plenty of other delights too, including vego options, pupcakes, snacks and party supplies.

There goes the neighbourhood.
