Ursula le Guin

Book club met today - only one of us had ever read the 1969 "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula le Guin! So in spite of the fact that there was resistance to science fiction, it was a very lively discussion and a ("surprisingly") well liked book. We also read "The Wild Girls" with an interview included about reading books. Ursula is so refreshing! I admit to subscribing to her theory that to become a writer one has to read, read, read! (so last night went to get some books for Tatum that she was all enthused about - the author had been to her school and she was all excited to get an autographed copy. One if my weaknesses. :-). But she has been writing stories for years already so how can i resist? I finally did have to buy Ursula's "Blue Moon over Thurman Street" which was the inspiration for the blip "one street" project of Kendall. It has grown on me and I think is an example that the whole ( photos, poetry, some interviews and some Tao writings and some descriptions in the back ) are much bigger than the parts . And I think the "cat wings" children's book is a treat ( with very endearing illustrations !). Thanks to Ursula, she is an inspiration!
