Does everyone say 'please'?

I got a smart speaker thingy some months ago and have just got round to setting it up. Very sparse instructions - read various things off the screen so it can recognise your voice to set it up, then give clear orders.
Well it works - it will turn the radio on to whatever station I ask, it answers questions quicker than I could type them into a browser - and no doubt a lot more.
But ...... I was always taught that 'please' and 'thank you' cost nothing but mean a lot - so I cannot just 'order'  - I request ! As a result, I say please and thank you to a robot!!
