The buttercups are having a bumper year for some reason and those of us with white nosed ponies are seeing burnt sore mouths which look pretty scabby and nasty. We’ve been pulling the weeds by hand where it’s not too bad but they have a long flowering season and there’s more buttercups than grass in some areas. Might be just as well as Daisy the pony is looking a bit tumkins ! Less might be more ....
My Barnpark wild life rescue service is not having much success recently , I noticed a jackdaw yesterday hiding behind some long grass and it was quite injured , when I went to look it staggered off into a nettly hedge so I left him for the fox, but he was still around today. I caught him and he was in a bad way. While I ducked under the electric fence he struggled to get away (and they have a big old pointy beak) I got zapped in my back and fell/tripped over, hurt my back, smashed my phone - bloody hell !! Didn’t drop the bird , did some kind of cricket roll while hanging on to him !!
The poor bird was a complete mess when I looked at him properly with one foot and wing dangling , the vet wasn’t going to be able to do anything with this patient and they do not make happy caged birds. So I apologised repeatedly while I put him out of his misery . Not nice :0( but better than leaving him to suffer . He had a parent or partner who squawked and shouted at me - I felt crap !
