Make Every Day Memorable

Kipsie joined me for a wander along the River Otter this evening.

We didn't have to wait long for the adult female beaver to appear by the lodge and she was soon off downstream for her supper (or is it breakfast if she has been asleep all day?)

You can walk alongside the river all the way down to the sea but the banks are full of willow, reeds and trees which obstruct the view of the watercourse.
The beaver was swimming strongly, occasionally diving out of sight but we managed to keep her in our sights for a few minutes.
She ran into a brood of newly hatched ducklings, giving them the fright of their lives and making them scatter in all directions. The attentive mother mallard soon had them all rounded up again (1st extra)
In the chaos we lost sight of the beaver so further on, where the vegetation cleared, we sat and waited for her to appear. My main image shows Kipsie trying to ident the tree we were sat under by means of an app.
After a while with no sighting we carried on walking and caught up with her, several hundred metres further on, having a snack.(2nd extra)
Throughout the evening we repeated this process of spotting and losing her as she swam probably a mile downstream.
You can't beat a great wildlife encounter especially when it is shared with a great friend
