Tiny Tuesday. : : Yellow Violas
Further to the story of the ground squirrel wars...John came down from checking on it yesterday and said, 'caught a critter....' Unfortunately not a ground squirrel but a crow! Spike apparently went ballistic when John let it out of the trap and it flew away. John is getting a little bit demented, following them around and muttering about poison bait. Considering how difficult it is to dig a hole in what can hardly even be called dirt much less 'soil', it is absolutely remarkable how quickly a ground squirrel can do an end around on a blocked hole and dig a new one!
I was getting more than a little demented by the call and response between neighboring saws or grinders. The whining sawing at the house on the corner went on all morning alternating with a sound like a magnified dentist's drill which has been emanating from the disaster house for days. It seems odd that all this work is going inside a house which has neither doors nor windows, nor a finished roof.
Not that it will rain again until next winter. More and more people are putting in water tanks, especially in this neighborhood because we're all on wells. We're considering it.
Our immediate next door neighbors plan to rebuild as soon as possible which doesn't seem to be very soon. It has been 9 months since the fire. There are a couple of houses going up a few blocks away but they all seem to be using by the developer who built the original subdivision.
Many houses and even a couple of lots with burned trees on them have been sold. My neighbor, who is a realtor, is so busy that she told me she begins her day at 5am. A lot of people are moving away but a lot of people seem to be moving in as well. The neighbors on the other side of us have moved an RV onto their property and are living in that. They plan to rebuild and are taking care of their garden in the meantime. I think they have a second home somewhere else
Thanks to Pinkhairedlady for taking over the Tiny Tuesday duties.
