Damselfly
This is an ebony jewelwing damselfly - a male. The female has a little white spot on each wing. There were a fairly large number of them hovering around a particular spot in my garden today while I was mowing some grass.
Also - Ronda has already visited twice today. The extra is a photo from 7:00 AM this morning. She was back again at 1:30 this afternoon. I expect we'll see her again in the evening. A nursing mom's gotta eat!
Just now I was watching a male grackle feeding a begging fledgling. He was giving him sunflower seeds. Eventually Dad flew away leaving the kid alone. The kid wandered around for a while, occasionally looking at where Dad had gone, and then started picking up seeds for himself! Way to go, kid! And then eventually he flew off too.
