metro
I am really regretting not getting that Tokina 2.8 11-17mm ultra wide. Paris is a tight (and this week dark) city to shoot. But with that said, I love the composition and colors of this shot of Leah in the Les Halles Metro stop. What else did we do today? Slept in (we are still recovering from colds) then had breakfast at a little cafe across from the Louvre (which is closed Tuesdays), walked through a very slushy and snowy Jardin des Tuileries where I successfully spotted the gold ring pickpocket scheme (thanks Lonely Planet!). We tried the Musee de l'Orangerie (Monet's water lilies), but it too was closed. So we walked by the Seine for a while, eying houseboats and minding our way beneath bridges and over broken cobblestones. We came upon the famous lock bridge--Leah's aunts gave us a lock with two keys during a toast at our wedding. Got a good video of the whole thing--what a beautiful tradition. Walked to Notre Dame and Shakespeare and Co for some books and small gift for Kathryn. I was surprised how many tourists were in there, but I guess it is quite famous and since it's so snug, it's a bit hard to get around. Picked up a Robbe-Grillet book I've never seen, as well as two nice European editions of the Satorialist street portrait books. Then we headed down into the Metro for the first time this trip, making our way towards St-Germain, walked some more, ate at another cafe. The server brought us some French fries we didn't order (my theory was someone was friendily prodding us as Americans), but didn't get charged for our mineral water or my espresso, so it all panned out. Took the Metro again to Les Halles and trekked back to our apartment, after first stopping for a one euro subsidized baguette and some groceries for the next few days for our apartment. We are going to make breakfast at "home" in the morning. Okay, so much for the short and sweet I mentioned a few Blips ago, eh? Taking a wee rest before we head out into the snow again for a fancy dinner. I fucking love this city.
