Brighton i360
This is the "vertical" pier that was opened in 2016 to replace the West Pier at Brighton (see yesterday's main photo). The West Pier was closed to the public in 1975 due to financial issues and fell into disrepair, which was compounded by fires in 2003. Storm damage caused further destruction of the pier structure leaving it as an atmospheric hulk. The i365 was designed by the same team responsible for the London Eye. Whilst the London Eye carries its passengers in pods on a vertical axis, the viewing platform of the i365 rotates on a horizontal axis. You enter at ground level, the platform rises up the tower and then slowly rotates. The views out to sea are great, especially at sunset, and when we went up a couple of years ago we were treated to spectacular murmarations of starlings around the remnants of the West Pier.
