The Gathering
With an east coast haar hanging over the city it was an inauspicious start for the hundreds of tourists making an early exit from their accommodation this morning. At 9:30 it was as busy in the city centre as before Covid with traffic and people jockeying for position on the thoroughfares.
You have to wonder which city department thought it a good idea to dig up, on a Bank Holiday weekend, one of the only two carriageways left on Forrest road after the newly instigated cycling and pedestrian lanes. The resulting tail back on Lauriston place was a sight to behold.
And so to 6pm and the gathering of some of the clan. From thinking I had far too much food, it was a relief to see almost everything was eaten, washed down by an alarming amount of alcohol. We were fortunate that the weather was warm enough and haar free for everyone to stay outside.
By 9pm everyone had left and the house had to be restored to factory settings.
It’s such a long time since we had a gathering like this and without his Lordship overseeing proceedings. I think he would have been happy with my performance and we did have a lovely time.
