The long dark day of the computer
A lot of preparation for this weekend's course and completing the Admin from last week's. Betwixt I started on some incredibly dull but necessary structural I.T. behind the scenes stuff for Wellness Walks.
Very very quickly I hit the wall that is the (completely by design) incomprehensible way so much technology infrastructure works. Eventually I gave in and started to find out how to contact Google tech support. A very simple (once found) process and I was told they'd call me back in 8 minutes. Exactly 8 minutes later Ivan called from Sofia in Bulgaria....and stayed on the line, sharing a screen with me for the next two and a half hours!! Patiently and diligently he reconfigured everything, set up new email aliases and copied files to new servers. I've got to say it was exceptionally good service, I'd estimate his time at more than I pay Google per year.
Later a quick trip to town to buy coffee and biscuits for the course and a lovely long (but damp) Missy walk through meadows starting to burst with wildflowers.
Philosophy Friday
Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid;
Humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant;
Together they are powerful beyond imagination.
