Dragonfly (Deceased)

My walk in the neighborhood did not yield a good image for today, (abstract or otherwise). It is definitely more difficult to photograph the absence of something than its presence. Every day a few more trees disappear. More tall grass gets mowed , more lots get cleared. Nearby, new houses are starting to go up, but not here  on our street yet. These are not necessarily bad things, just difficult to show in a single image. 

I decided to abandon the effort and spend some time trying to photograph the  dragonfly I found on the garage windowsill. Since they are almost impossible for me to photograph in the detail they deserve, finding a well preserved deceased one  seemed a good opportunity. It was surprisingly difficult to capture both the huge insect eyes on either side of the head and the delicate wings at the same time but this was the best of the lot.

As has been he case since the pandemic/lockdown was announced , have been daily  articles in the newspaper about what was happing in the county. Over the weekend the first death in three weeks was reported of a man who was fully vaccinated. this morning's story elaborated...he was 95 years old and had 'many comorbidities'. They followed up with the comment that older people , who were the first to be vaccinated, probably had less robust immune systems'. Now that the vaccination rate has exceeded 50% the number of people clamoring for a shot has dropped and health officials are begging people to get vaccinated and bring that rate up to 70-80& and 'herd immunity.'  Vaccine 'hesitators' no longer seems an accurate description ....

The state is scheduled to reopen fully on June 15th and the county health advisor says she thinks it is a 'good idea'. Once again we are sort of left to proceed  on our own. I'm hoping that not being able  go to a baseball game or a concert without showing proof of vaccination might be a more persuasive argument....
