The Balmoral

With the arrival from Yorkshire of my youngest daughter and family tomorrow, the fridge is looking uncharacteristically full. I haven’t seen her or her partner or the grandsons for 18 months and neither have her siblings, who will visit the Dower House over the weekend.

It is amazing how one gets used to the peaceful contemplation of a solitary lifestyle and so I wonder how it will be with a patio full of visitors- one of our number still refusing to enter the house.

I had a sortie this morning before the crowds to get some essentials in town and blipped the entrance to the Balmoral Hotel which features tomorrow night in a TV programme on the world’s most expensive hotels. There are definitely many tourists back in Edinburgh, especially as it is the English Bank Holiday weekend. I only hope it doesn’t mean a spike in Covid cases and a return to local lockdown.
