Staphani Convent / Stephani`scher Convent

On leaving my house, I turn onto Stephanistraße, which takes me to this rather impressive building.

A plaque notes it dates back over 400 years, founded by Joachim Stephani, Professor of Law at Greifswald University.

It’s had a colourful history, starting as a poor house, then a barracks, a ‘residential complex for socially problematic families’, a post office, and student digs - but disappointingly never, as far as I can establish, to house nuns…
