Another day, another ferry
A trip to the island of Shapinsay today.
The sky remained grey and a fine drizzle accompanied a cool breeze.
A typical days of highs and lows.
A high point for me was watching a redshank which insisted on hopping along in front of the car on a farm track. It was doing a great job of causing a distraction and sure enough, in the field nearby there were several fluffy young ones scurrying around.
Disappointments were mostly caused by finding no-one home after a slow and careful drive along a very bumpy track. Even worse, when there was nowhere to turn and so a slow and careful reverse all the way back was required.
I did learn, though, that reversing in a car no longer makes the mileometer go backwards. I would count that as another disappointment. For some long time I have been consoled when faced with an awkward and lengthy reverse, with the thought that it was winding the clock back. Not true, it seems.
