25 years ago, almost to the day we stopped here for the night when riding the C2C.
It was the first holiday weekend after the publication of the route and on that night the pub landlord served 96 evening meals. People slept in the local school, villagers’ spare bedrooms and the visitor centre.
We returned today, the landlord has changed but still lives in the house next door, and the bar is still full of old tat. Sadly the motor bike on the bar has gone.
