Brrr

The main trouble with cycling on snow (apart from the falling over, which I only did once when my front wheel slipped away on a bit of line marking paint although there were a couple of other wobbly moments) is that you don't go fast enough to generate any heat so it's bloody freezing.

The snow on the way in was fine - soft and wet - so the grip was reasonably good even with tyres that don't have a bit of tread on them. The snow was also doing an interesting thing every three revolutions building up a layer of snow, which would then fly off under its own weight and then start again. Quite compelling and distracting to watch. On the way home it was slushy although tending towards the rice krispie noise of crystallising water breaking up under the tyres. Slightly scary so the mountain bike with thick studded tyres has been prepped for next run in.
