Tree down

Ferocious weather brought down a hawthorn, weighted with ivy, from the garden wall bank (= Pembrokeshire hedge) right across the path. Regrettably, a sound healthy tree, not one of the stricken ash trees

Fortunately our regular tree man was able to come straight over and deal with it. And he went up to the  tree nursery and brought back four crab apple saplings to plant in the space. An old friend of our elder son, Nick's been  doing work  here since he was in college and it's good to see him develop his craft as an arborist.
What's more, he and I can chat about plants with equal enthusiasm and he went home with a clump of sweet woodruff in his pocket. He's planning to naturalise it among the 30,000 baby trees he's planted (so far) on his own land.
