WHAT IS THIS?

For all the passionate flower gardeners, I have a riddle for you:
What is this flower bud?  Here are a few hints:
-varieties of this flower are popular in Britain & grown in Afghanistan
-it comes in a variety of colors, but red may be the most popular
-some varieties are grown for medicinal properties, but drug dealers 
 make it illegal.  This variety is grown only for its beauty. 
-look at my EXTRA for another hint.

This plant is another of the seedling my son grew for me.  There is also
a plant with dusty blue flowers that lasts only a day.
