He was a toll collector who just wanted to paint. And when he did, the masses laughed at him for his lack of sophistication and to this day his style is classified as naive. But he rejoiced in what he did and his art portrays his lifelong love of nature. I simply adore his work and for me he epitomises the wonderful cool french nature of sang froid

Henri monsieur Rousseau, i really love all that you created and the fact that no matter how much the masses laughed, you continued in your life’s work
