Silk Mill
Any of my photography chums out there thinking of going to the Format Festival in Derby, then you really should.
I went along this afternoon and visited:
Quad - The Erik Kessels photo album show is brilliant. The way it has been presented including huge recreations of cut and damaged photographs is really clever,
Derby Museum and Art Gallery - Brian Griffin's odd portraits are mesmerising. The TUV photos hilarious,
St. Werburgh's Chapel - copies of Asphalt Magazine that left me as cold as the chapel in the sleet,
and the festival's main venue The Chocolate Factory - loads going on here. Some great (David Welch's Material World and the Caravan Gallery), some not so (Pawel Fabjanski) but something for everyone.
The highlight for me at least though was in the Silk Mill (the world's oldest factory), where dotted amongst the Rolls Royce engines and strike placards with rude words on them, Leicester Lo-Fi's pictures from Taylor's Bell Foundry that you may have heard me blithering on about previously. So they weren't the most creative or technically satisfying pictures on display, but they were mine (and Dave's, Andy's and Daryl's)!
