Lovely walk around Grimwith Reservoir, between Pateley Bridge & Grassington. The weather was gorgeous, the scenery was delightful and we came across High Laithe Cruck Barn - A-shaped frame - (see extra). The reservoir is one of 11 in the Dales bringing fresh water to Bradford.
The original reservoir was completed in 1864, covered 102 acres, contained up to 670 million gallons and involved the abandonment of the hamlets of Grimwith and Gate Up, which were flooded to make room for the reservoir. It’s much bigger now, the water level raised by 20 metres. And when it was made bigger the barn was moved to it’s present site and restored.
