Quokka Quokka
Today was incredible. I went to Rottnest Island, which is a little island about 40 minutes by ferry from Perth. The most popular form of transportation on the island is bicycle so that's what I did! It's about 14 km long and 3 km wide so very easy to see the whole thing in a day. I started off at Little Parakeet Bay (not a parakeet in sight) but it was beautiful and recommended to me by one of the guys who runs the ferry as a good place to snorkel. I was surprised by just how much there was to see so close to shore! Definitely not world class reef or anything, but there was lots of fish and plant life. I spent the rest of my day biking around the island and searching for quokkas, which are unique to the island and are in the same family as kangaroos and wallabies. As you might be able to tell, I was eventually successful! They're about the size of a housecat, but they still hop around like little kangaroos and are incredibly curious and used to being around people. I had one sneak up on me while I was minding my own business, hoping to get a snack from me!
