The Great Escape!
Monday 17th May 2021
Stage Three of Government roadmap reached. Mum and I can meet and go away ... so we did.
First stop Seaham, for a picnic in the sunshine looking out over the sea. Then a walk down to the beach, which is a long way down the steps. I made a stone sculpture tower of 9 stones and also found some very small bits of sea glass, which is what the beach at Seaham is famous for.
Onwards through the Tyne Tunnel and a stop at St Mary's lighthouse at the end of Whitley Bay. We walked across the causeway to the lighthouse and the bonus was seeing the seals asleep on the rocks.
Still further North to our destination. A self catering place in Beadnell. The weather through the day was mixed. Thankfully sunny for both our stops but we travelled through torrential rain as well. After an evening meal the sun was out again so we went down to the harbour at Beadnell and walked along the beach.
We've started a list of little treats to be thankful for on this break, things we've missed during COVID:-
1) Being on holiday together
2) A hug
3) Picnic by the sea
4) Walking on the beach
5) The sound of waves crashing against rocks
6) Making a pebble sculpture
7) Seeing the seals
8) The gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore
