Everyday I Write The Book

The Old Normal

No not me. I’m young and weird. No, I’m talking about actually going into a coffee shop and sitting down with a cup of coffee like we used to in the old days. Before Covid was a thing. Before there was any such thing as the "new" normal when if you could buy it at all you had to drink it in a frozen huddle, outdoors, in groups of no more than six people.

I’m hoping to have an "old normal beer" on Wednesday.

We had to buy a piece of plywood cut to size for the bathroom today. Jewsons couldn’t do it because the man who operated the machine was off sick. We went to B&Q but they said their machine had broken down. The next shop didn’t cut wood for health and safety reasons. We eventually ended up in Champion Timber who lived up to their name and did the job, no fuss, no bother, and even carried it to the car without being asked.

I also bought some walking shoes and a rain jacket thingie. Much needed as it was another piss awful day. I even got hailed on at one point. So cold tonight we put the central heating on again.

Long FaceTime with TGR tonight. She is having trouble with work life balance. Times like this, you really don’t like being in another country.

Bathroom is nearly finished. I mean it looks fab, few more bits to do. Just been a long job. This really has taken a long time to get to the new normal ...
