- Penguin Pencil Case Gets Wing Sewn Back On -
A Penguin pencil case got his wing sewn back on today in what is believed to be a ground breaking operation.
Mr Ponguin, a 5 year old+ pencil case from Brigg, North Lincs, lost his wing in a classroom prank that went horribly wrong. Having achieved some notoriety at school, a prankster tried to steal Mr Ponguin from his owner, Piers Sciolti and in the fracas Mr Ponguin's wing was entirely pulled off. Piers, 13, also from Brigg, was naturally totally devastated.
Of the penguin he said 'I couldn't believe it, I was in total shock. I tried to save him but I wasn't able to. At the time I was upset and angry.'
This is not the first time that Mr Ponguin has been at the centre of an horrific accident. Some 5 years ago he was found by Piers and his family, lying limp and lifeless on a level crossing across the road. The Scioltis rescued him and Mrs Sciolti took him under her wing and gave him a good scrub. 'He was filthy' said Mrs Sciolti, 'but he soon came back to life'.
Since then, the boy and penguin have become inseparable, even getting into scrapes at school together and being sent out of class. 'He's just that kind of Ponguin' said Piers. 'Everyone wants to be his friend and things can get a little excitable in class.'
In this latest incident, Mrs Sciolti was drafted in, once again. She painstakingly sewed back Mr Ponguin's wing in an operation which is believed to be the first of it's kind. 'I had to try' she said, 'for both Piers and Mr Ponguin.'
Asked about his newly sewn back wing, Mr Ponguin declined to comment.
Mr Ponguin is now recovering well and Mrs Sciolti has promised to give him another wash at the weekend, if he's up to it. 'Lets hope there are no more scrapes' she said.
Boy and penguin are once more reunited and Mr Ponguin is expected to make a full recovery in time.
