Four of about a billion photos from today.
Working in retail wasn’t what I expected to do with my Fine Art degree, and it genuinely did start as a temp job that I’d “leave in January”.
Eight years, two stores and a few promotions later, I was there to witness the shutters coming down for the very last time. I think Bristol in particular will miss Debenhams - I’ve spoken to so many people over the last few weeks who remember when it took over from Jones in 1972.
I can’t say that it’s always been amazing, but the highs definitely outweighed the lows, and I know I’ve met friends for life (and Matt!). The last few weeks and months have been really difficult and incredibly draining, which probably made it easier to leave, but it was really good to have one final party with the few of us remaining.
Thanks Debs, you were a real one.
