Dumbarton Castle
We continued our Sunday morning trips and drove to Helensburgh and Rhu this morning. In the way we stopped off to see Dumbarton Castle, perched high on Dumbarton Rock on the Clyde estuary.
The history dates back 1500 years. The rock was the capital of the kingdom of Strathclyde and was besieged by Vikings. The castle itself was originally built in 1220 as a border post to defend against the Vikings.
. It was a lovely sunny morning and the views were beautiful. We also spotted lots of Eider ducks in the bay at Rhu.
