Van Life Day 11 - Harris

Thank you all for the stars snd hearts for yesterday’s St Kilda blip. I still can’t believe we actually made it to that magical place.

We stayed parked up at Leverburgh ferry last night. We made a slight detour to see the 16th century St Clements church, in Rodel, but we weren’t even allowed in the churchyard as there was a big sign saying NO ENTRY. It was a shame as there were banks of primroses and cowslips there and it all looked pretty and interesting. We continued up to Tarbert to the necessary chemical waste depot. I also hoped to get a Guardian but the papers wouldn’t be arriving till 2pm. Nothing much was open so we headed for the beautiful beaches at Luskentyre. We found a parking place because all the kayakers, boarders etc were leaving, the tide having turned. We took a picnic lunch to the beach and I had a paddle.

We drove on a bit further to stop for a stroll along another gorgeous white beach and then up the dunes to McLeod’s stone. I’m sure I read some legend about it but I can’t find it now. It’s just another standing stone!

We drove back to Leverburgh to try the shop for salad and a Guardian. No luck as we didn’t fancy the Daily Excess or Daily Fail. We are parked up for the night near the ferry for our early start to North Uist tomorrow.
