Alert

The White-Faced Heron is widespread in Australia and New Zealand. Also in parts of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It's found in all environments, including populated areas. This one was stealthily feeding on my neighbour's front lawn. Every now and then it slightly lifted one foot and raked it though the grass. This stirred up small insects, that were immediately grabbed by that fearsome beak.
